Reichs Ford Road Phase II Improvements

Frederick County is planning improvements to Reichs Ford Road between Bartonsville Road and Ijamsville Road to enhance safety and operational efficiency. The existing roadway has sharp curves, limited sight distance, two one-lane bridges, and stream bank encroachment, all of which present safety and mobility challenges. Proposed improvements include:

  • Roadway Realignment: Redesigning the road to meet current standards, improve sight distance, and address substandard geometry.
  • Bridge Replacements: Replacing two aging one-lane bridges over Bush Creek with modern, two-lane structures to improve traffic flow and safety.
  • Intersection Upgrades: Realigning the Bartonsville Road intersection to reduce crashes and improve visibility.
  • Drainage & Stormwater Management: Upgrading culverts, adding storm drain systems, and implementing best management practices to control runoff and protect water quality.
  • Retaining Walls: Installing new retaining walls to minimize impacts to nearby properties, steep slopes, and sensitive environmental areas.
  • Environmental Protection: Minimizing impacts to forests, wetlands, and floodplains, with mitigation strategies for affected areas.

The engineering feasibility design study observes all aspects and options for the improvement for a basis of design and is provided below. The project will require Right-of-way (ROW) acquisition along the corridor and coordination and upgrades at the railroad grade crossing.
