[ARCHIVED] Public Invited to Attend Meeting on Data Centers

Members of the public are invited to attend a community meeting to learn more about the Critical Digital Infrastructure (data center) overlay. The meeting will be held on Thursday, September 25, at 6 p.m. in the church hall of St. Joseph on Carrollton Manor, located at 5843 Manor Woods Road, Adamstown.

“We are approaching data center development the Frederick County way – with strong regulations to limit growth and prevent the sprawl that happened in Northern Virigina,” said County Executive Jessica Fitzwater. “This upcoming meeting is an opportunity for members of our community to learn more about how we are regulating the data center industry and to ask questions.”

As part of the work to prevent data center sprawl, Frederick County’s proposal includes:

  • Cutting in half the number of acres that are currently available for data center development.
  • Limiting data center development to less than 1% of the County’s total landmass.
  • Concentrating data center development to the area in and around the Eastalco site north of Adamstown where infrastructure exists and development is already occurring.
  • Preserving five acres of farmland for every new acre turned over to data center development.

The upcoming community meeting will be attended by County staff and representatives from Catellus, the company leading the development of the Quantum Frederick data center campus. Registration is not required, but attendees are encouraged to RSVP at www.PublicInput.com/DataCenters.
