FREDERICK, Md. – Frederick County celebrated its second annual Veterans Appreciation Day with a free, family-friendly event held on Saturday, July 19, at Frederick Health Village. Hosted by the Frederick County Division of Aging and Independence and the Veterans Advisory Council, the day was filled with gratitude, camaraderie, and special activities dedicated to veterans.

“We are deeply honored to celebrate our veterans, service members, and their families who have given so much for our country,” said Frederick County Division of Aging and Independence Director Carolyn True. “It was wonderful to see such strong community support at our second annual Veterans Appreciation Day. This year’s turnout reflects Frederick County’s deep gratitude and commitment to the 17,000 veterans who call Frederick County home.”

County Executive Jessica Fitzwater attended the event and shared a proclamation to recognize July 19, 2025, as Veterans Appreciation Day in Frederick County. The event was also attended by members of the County Council and Frederick Delegation to the General Assembly. Frederick City Mayor Michael O’Connor was in attendance and also shared a proclamation.

The event featured a dedication ceremony honoring five Frederick County veterans with Quilts of Valor. The MSP Quilting Angels—a founding chapter of the Quilts of Valor Foundation—partnered with the Frederick County Division of Aging and Independence to recognize combat veterans who have been touched by war. Each handcrafted quilt, accompanied by a certificate of appreciation, was presented to the honorees in recognition of their courage and sacrifice. The veterans were nominated by the Frederick County Veterans Advisory Council.

"Our veterans have given so much, and it's our turn to give back by ensuring they have access to the resources and support they need,” said Patrick Pierson, Chairman of the Veterans Advisory Council. “This event is just a small token of our gratitude and commitment to support them in any way we can."

The event also included a resource fair where veterans could access various support services and information, as well as workshops designed to provide valuable skills and knowledge. Additionally, there was a static vehicle display that allowed attendees to explore various military and emergency vehicles up close. Attendees enjoyed a variety of food trucks and live entertainment throughout the day.
