FREDERICK, MD – Frederick County Office of Economic Development (FCOED) is proud to announce the expansion of Hercules Custom Iron (HCI), a division of Hercules Fence, with the purchase of the iconic former Flying Dog Brewery building in Frederick, MD. This relocation will triple the size of HCI's current operations and double its shop and office footprint.

“It’s exciting to see Hercules Custom Iron growing their operations in Frederick County,” County Executive Jessica Fitzwater said. “The facility they are moving to has played an important role in our manufacturing sector through the years, and it holds a special place in the hearts of many in our community.”

HCI is a versatile metals fabrication, ironworks, and millwright company specializing in steel, aluminum, stainless steel, brass, glass, and more. With a state-of-the-art powder coating facility and an in-house machine shop, HCI is fully equipped to machine nearly anything required for projects of any scale or complexity.

Growth and Commitment to Quality

Founded almost 20 years ago as a vertically integrated division of Hercules Fence, HCI has enjoyed remarkable growth fueled by strategic acquisitions and a commitment to high-quality craftsmanship. The new Frederick location positions HCI to better serve clients throughout the Washington, D.C. area, providing easy access for government, commercial, and residential installations, all while remaining close to their talented workforce.  HCI aims to double in size and add significant jobs within the local workforce, and also be an active Frederick County community partner.

Evan Winston, President of Hercules Fence and HCI, expressed his excitement about the expansion: "We are proud to be in the iconic former Flying Dog Brewery building in Frederick, MD, and we couldn’t be more excited to triple the size of our location and double our shop and office footprint. With this acquisition, we plan on investing in significant additional equipment and machinery, aiming to continue our tremendous growth and adding jobs right here in Frederick, MD. We take immense pride in the high-profile projects we build and are passionate about contributing to the vibrant community of Frederick, the State of Maryland, and the Made in the USA initiative.”

Meeting Complex Needs with In-House Expertise

HCI’s expanded facility allows the company to meet even the most demanding project requirements. HCI and the Hercules Fence team specialize in all types of fabrication projects for commercial, residential, sensitive government facilities, critical infrastructure, and at some of our Nation’s most treasured landmarks.

HCI’s previous location at 36 West Pennsylvania Avenue, Walkersville, MD, is currently available for sale. More information about the listing can be found here.
