[ARCHIVED] Frederick County Government Offices Closed for Thanksgiving


FREDERICK, Md – Frederick County Government offices will be closed on Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24 for the Thanksgiving Holiday. County offices and services will return to regularly scheduled hours on Monday, November 27.                                                                                                    

Clarifications to the holiday schedule:

  • Animal Control: Administrative office will be closed and kennels will be closed for adoptions on Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24. Animal Control Officers will be on routine duty, call 301-600-1544. For emergency situations, call 301-600-1603 or visit
  • Board of Elections: Office will be closed. For further details, visit or call 301-600-VOTE.
  • Department of Social Services: Office will be closed. For further details, call 1-800-332-6347 or visit
  • Division of Solid Waste and Recycling: The Reich’s Ford Road Facility, including the Transfer Station, Yard Waste and Compost Programs, Citizens Convenience Center, and Recycling Center, will be closed Thanksgiving Day with operations resuming Friday the 24th, 7 AM-4:30 PM. Administrative and customer services will operate in a limited capacity on that Friday. Due to the Thanksgiving closure, recycling collection will slide one day, with Thursday’s collection sliding to Friday and Friday’s collection sliding to Saturday.
  • Health Department: All offices will be closed. For further details, call 301-600-1029 or visit
  • Frederick County Public Libraries: Libraries will be closed on Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24. Curbside pickup and telephone reference will not be available. For further details, call 301-600-1630 or visit   
  • Frederick County Courts and State’s Attorney’s Office: District and Circuit Courts will be closed. 
  • Liquor Board: Offices will be closed. For further details, call 1-301-600-2984 or visit
  • Transit: The Transit office will be closed On Thursday, November 23, the Transit office will be closed, and all services will be cancelled. On Friday, November 24, the Transit office will be closed. Transit services and regional transportation will be following a modified schedule.
