Community Partnership Grant Awards Announced
Human Service Nonprofit Agencies Support People in Times of Need
FREDERICK, MD – Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner today announced a total of $1 million in awards to 27 local nonprofit human service organizations through the county’s Community Partnership Grant program. She expressed appreciation to the human service nonprofit partners that help others reach their potential and share in the community’s prosperity. These partners stepped up to help people in need during the pandemic, and they continue to play an important role in recovery. Grants will provide food to children and seniors; crisis services for residents facing addiction; respite service for caretakers of seniors with dementia; home repairs for veterans and seniors with low income; life skills for homeless youth; emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence; and many other services. County Council President M.C. Keegan-Ayer and Vice President Michael Blue joined Executive Gardner in announcing the grant awards.
“Our nonprofit partners are taking care of people in our community,” said Executive Gardner. “By supporting these human services organizations, we are able to leverage our efforts and resources so together we can make a bigger difference to people.”
Executive Gardner launched the Community Partnership Grants program seven years ago to restore the county’s longstanding partnership with human service nonprofit agencies. The program leverages county resources, avoids duplication of effort, and establishes a strong functional collaboration to meet the human service needs in the community. The county saves tax dollars working with the community organizations through early intervention and prevention.
Of the 46 competitive applications received for the grants, an independent panel selected 29 grants to 27 nonprofits to meet needs in one of three categories – housing, seniors, and community needs. Funds were made available for one-time purchases, ongoing programs, or both. A list of the grantees is available online at www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/CPGawardsFY23.
