[ARCHIVED] County Buildings Go Purple in September

Frederick County Goes Purple

Throughout September, several Frederick County Government facilities are “going purple” as part of a community call-to-action to reduce substance-related deaths and overdoses.  From dusk until dawn, Winchester Hall, the Frederick County Courthouse, C. Burr Artz Public Library, 30 North Market Street, the Health Department and ROOT at 118 N. Market Street in downtown Frederick will shine with purple lights to raise awareness and understanding of mental health and substance use disorders, and to celebrate those living in recovery.

“Frederick County cares,” said County Executive Jan Gardner.  “I want the light of purple from county buildings to show support for those who are struggling and to offer hope that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. We want people to know recovery is possible. There is hope and there is help.”

Going purple is part of National Recovery Month, which includes events that will kick off on Sept. 7 with a National Recovery Month Proclamation by Executive Gardner and Dr. Barbara Brookmyer, Health Officer, at Carroll Creek Linear Park.  County government employees are encouraged to wear purple throughout the month.
