[ARCHIVED] County Brings Back Popular Compost Bin and Rain Barrel Program

County Agencies Team Up to Help Conserve Community Resources

FREDERICK, Md. – In celebration of Earth Day, the Frederick County Division of Energy and Environment and the Division of Solid Waste and Recycling are collaborating to offer a limited-time opportunity for community members to purchase rain barrels, compost bins, and accessories at reduced pricing—with no sales tax or shipping fees added.

These practical tools help conserve resources, reduce waste, and protect the environment. Orders can be placed now through June 21, 2025, at www.enviroworld.us/frederickcountymd.

All orders will be processed by the manufacturer. Frederick County Government does not collect any proceeds and cannot issue refunds for unclaimed items. Products will be delivered in a single truckload to the County’s Recycling Drop-Off Center. Customers must pick up their orders on Saturday, June 28, between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. from 9031 Reichs Ford Road in Frederick. No delivery options are available.

Why Use Rain Barrels & Compost Bins? These products support soil health and water conservation efforts at home and offer big environmental benefits:

  • Compost bins reduce landfill waste and methane gas emissions and produce a nutrient-rich soil amendment.
  • Rain barrels collect rooftop runoff for later use in gardens, landscaping, or car washing—helping reduce water bills and prevent soil erosion and stormwater runoff.

Available to All. This sale is open to everyone—not just Frederick County residents—but participants must be able to pick up their purchases from the Recycling Drop-Off Center on Saturday June 28. To browse products or place an order, visit: www.enviroworld.us/frederickcountymd by June 21, 2025.

Learn More. This initiative supports Frederick County Government’s goals of protecting waterways, conserving resources, addressing causes of climate change, and diverting waste from landfills.
