FREDERICK, MD - Crews from the Frederick County Division of Water and Sewer Utilities are responding to a water main break along Spring Forest Road in the Spring Ridge Community.
As a result, residents in the Spring Ridge, Woodridge, and portions of Lake Linganore communities may experience fluctuations in water pressure or a complete loss of water service. At this time there is no estimate for when water service will be restored. Status updates will be provided on the Frederick County website at www.FrederickCountyMD.gov.
Because of loss of water pressure experienced during repairs, the Frederick County Division of Water and Sewer Utilities is announcing a precautionary boil water advisory to customers in these areas. A loss of pressure in the distribution system has the potential to cause backpressure, backsiphonage, or a net movement of water from outside the pipe to the inside through cracks, breaks, or joints in the distribution system that are common in all water systems. Such a system failure carries with it a risk of bacterial contamination in the distribution system.
It is recommended that customers boil all water used for food preparation, teeth brushing, ice making, and drinking until further notice. Customers are advised to bring the water to a rolling boil for at least one (1) minute, which is sufficient to ensure the water is safe for consumption. After boiling, remember to let the water cool before use. Ice that wasn’t made from boiled water should not be consumed or used for drinking. The water may be used for bathing and washing without boiling.
The Division of Water and Sewer Utilities, the Frederick County Health Department, and the Maryland Department of the Environment are monitoring the water system and will lift or revise this advisory as necessary. The advisory is a precautionary measure and will be lifted after water service is fully restored and water quality tests verify the safety of the water supply. This process may take several days.
