[ARCHIVED] Caution Urged as Debby Remnants Bring Potential for Heavy Rain and Floods

FREDERICK, MD – The Frederick County Division of Emergency Management encourages the public to be prepared for the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby to impact Frederick County. The storm brings the potential for heavy rain, gusty winds, and flooding late Thursday evening into Friday afternoon.

“We encourage everyone to take precautions ahead of the storm and to closely monitor the weather, especially in areas prone to flooding,” said Tony Rosano, Director of Emergency Management. “In particular, check the weather before your morning commute and beware of roads that may have flooded overnight.”

Potential impacts include flash floods, flooded roadways, heavy rains, fallen branches, and downed power lines.  Plan now for what to do in the case of power outages, downed trees, and have an alternate route in the case of flooded roadways. Never attempt to drive through flooded areas; Turn Around, Don’t Drown TM.

“Safey remains our top priority,” added Rosano. “Be sure that you have multiple ways to receive weather and emergency alerts and have an emergency plan for your household.”
