FREDERICK, Md. – September is National Preparedness Month. A nationwide effort to encourage individuals, families, and communities to prepare for emergencies and disasters is only meaningful if we can translate advocacy into action. This year’s theme, designated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, is “A Lasting Legacy: The life you’ve built is worth protecting. Prepare for disasters to create a lasting legacy for you and your family.”

During September, the Frederick County Division of Emergency Management and our local and State partners will join the nationwide effort to increase preparedness by sharing topical information on social media accounts including emergency planning, building an emergency kit, identifying and reducing risks, youth preparedness, and more.

“Emergencies begin and end at the local level. National Preparedness Month is an opportunity to focus on preparing our families, homes, workplaces, and neighborhoods to better respond and recover from emergencies. Taking action now can help build a more resilient Frederick County.” said Jack Markey, Director of Emergency Management.

The Division of Emergency Management encourages everyone to do their part to keep the community safe by preparing for emergencies. Take action by reviewing your family emergency plans, updating disaster supply kits, checking insurance coverage, and knowing where to find local emergency information.

Take the first step to preparedness and get informed by signing up to receive emergency information from AlertFC at www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/ALERT.
