The changes are effective February 1, 2011, and apply to current board members as well as any future county commissioners.
Board President Blaine Young commented, “The majority of the Board of County Commissioners have heard the citizens loud and clear – the office we hold is a service to the people of this county and not a career. We receive compensation for our public service and should not get a pension or retirement plan as part of the package as elected officials. We hope that other federal and state elected officials take note of our actions in Frederick County today and follow our lead.”
