[ARCHIVED] Limited-Time Opportunity to Install Rooftop Solar at Reduced Cost

FREDERICK, MD To make renewable energy more accessible and affordable, the Division of Energy and Environment has partnered with nonprofit Solar United Neighbors to bring the Switch Together program to our community. This initiative leverages group buying power to secure discounted rates on rooftop solar, battery backup systems and EV charging equipment. Participation in the program saves property owners nearly $7,000 on a typical installation.

Why act now? In addition to the group discount, people who act now may substantially benefit from an existing federal incentive that offsets 30% of the total cost of their solar installation against their federal taxes. This tax credit has played a key role in reducing the upfront cost of solar for households nationwide. However, new federal legislation ends the incentive and sets a deadline of December 31, 2025 for new systems to be installed and claim this credit.

Who Benefits? Switch Together helps  homeowners and small businesses overcome one of the biggest barriers to going solar: high initial cost. When systems are up and running, owners can significantly reduce or eliminate monthly energy bills.  On-site energy production can also ensure power supply during energy outages. Because the energy is clean and renewable, the benefits extend to the community by reducing pollution, greenhouse gases, and demand on the electrical grid.

How to Participate Visit www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/SwitchTogether to learn more. It is free to register and there is no obligation to accept an offer. Upon signing up, participants will receive a free customized site recommendation, estimate of solar production, system pricing and potential savings. Homeowners have until September 3, 2025 to decide whether to proceed and accept the offer.
