FREDERICK, Md. – New weight restrictions are being implemented for the Hornets Nest Road bridge over Friends Creek. The Frederick County Office of Transportation Engineering in the Division of Public Works is restricting the bridge to vehicles under 9,000 pounds, or combination units of 16,000 pounds or less. The restrictions will remain in place until the bridge is replaced.
During routine bridge inspections, critical members of the bridge were found to have deteriorated to the point that restrictions were necessary. The bridge is scheduled to be replaced in the upcoming fiscal year as part of a Capital Improvement Plan project.
