County Calls for Applications for Maryland Agricultural Land Preservation Foundation Program

About Frederick - Home Posted on February 02, 2026 | Last Updated on February 02, 2026

FREDERICK, MD – The Frederick County Office of Agriculture is accepting applications for the Maryland Agricultural Land Preservation Foundation (MALPF) Easement program. Applications are due Wednesday, April 1 at 4 p.m.

The MALPF program purchases agricultural preservation easements that forever restrict development on prime farmland and woodland.  Since the MALPF program began in 1977, it has preserved over 28,000 acres of farmland in Frederick County.

MALPF was established by the Maryland General Assembly in 1977 and is part of the Maryland Department of Agriculture.  MALPF is one of the most successful programs of its kind in the country. The State of Maryland, with the work of the Foundation and its State and local partners, has permanently preserved more agricultural land than any other state in the country.

MALPF is one of several agricultural preservation programs managed by the Frederick County Office of Agriculture. Together, the programs have permanently preserved over 77,500 acres of farmland.

Requirements for the program and the application can be found on the Office of Agriculture website at FrederickCountyMD.gov/MALPF

Applications are due by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1. For assistance, please contact Shannon O’Neil by calling 301-600-1411 or via e-mail at SONeil@FrederickCountyMD.gov
