Green Infrastructure Plan
The Green Infrastructure Plan is a functional planning document intended to assist the County in addressing important issues related to the natural and built environment. The goals of the Green Infrastructure Plan include establishing a strategically-planned, environmentally-sustainable, managed network of mapped “hubs” and “corridors” that reduces habitat fragmentation, provides options for wildlife migration, sustains and regenerates working lands, mitigates the effects of climate change, reduces vehicle miles traveled, and increases access to green space and outdoor recreation opportunities. The plan will consider critical factors that affect environmental, agricultural, and recreational resources in the County. The Green Infrastructure Plan may recommend changes to land use and zoning, as well as the establishment of new regulatory tools or incentives.

Meetings
Advisory Group
The Livable Frederick Planning and Design Office is leading this planning effort. The first phase of work involved an initial series of meetings with the Green Infrastructure Advisory Group. Meetings were held between October 2024 and January 2025. An additional meeting of the Advisory Group is anticipated in late spring or early summer of 2025. Advisory Group meetings are open to the public but are not intended to facilitate public comment. Agendas and minutes for completed Advisory Group meetings can be accessed from the links provided on this page.
Frederick Futures Open House: Shelter, Culture, and Nature
The Livable Frederick Planning and Design Office held three open houses for the Frederick County Green Infrastructure Plan in March and April 2025. These open houses (Frederick Futures Open House: Shelter, Culture, and Nature) were intended to provide members of the public with information about the purpose of the plans and an opportunity to share comments with planning staff. These meetings also included opportunities to learn about the Housing Element and the Frederick County Historic Preservation Plan.
Public Comments received via the online survey and open houses through January 27, 2026
Workshops and Public Hearings
As with previous Livable Frederick plans, members of the public will be able to participate as the plan is developed during Planning Commission workshops, during the Planning Commission's public hearing process for their draft document, and again as the Recommended Plan moves forward through the legislative process with the County Council. Please check this website for announcements for upcoming meetings.
