Yard Waste and Compost Program
- Yard Waste can be dropped of rain or shine, Monday through Saturday 7AM-4:30PM for NO COST at facility at 9031 Reichs Ford Road, Frederick MD, 21704
- Compost and other available yard-waste derived products are purchased in bulk only, resident is responsible for their own container
- Maryland state law requires ALL loads to be covered, if load is not covered, entry to facility can be denied
- Pruning's and trimmings must be smaller than 6" in diameter, and not exceed 8' in length
- From the scale house, access the yard waste drop off by turning left just past the tire drop-off area. Take your next right and follow this two lane road to the yard waste paddock
- Follow all signs and posted speed limits
- Heavy equipment is in use, follow all directions, and be aware of movements
- Park in a way that leaves space for others to go around you as you unload
- No items such as food scraps or other household compost are accepted
- First come first served, and can sell out: Call 301-600-1860 for availability
- Costs: $15 per ton Residential $20 Commercial (For a limited time)
- Maintains a temperature of 140 Degrees for at least 3 days, which kills potentially harmful bacteria, weed seeds, and other potential contaminants
Composting is an easy, all-natural method of turning much of your yard and kitchen waste into a valuable landscape amendment. It's the original form of recycling! Composting conserves resources, creates less waste, and contributes to a beautiful, healthy garden that's "green" in more ways than one!
Compost bins available for sale:
The Frederick County Division of Solid Waste and Recycling regularly sells Geo-Bin brand composters, available at wholesale pricing year-round. Currently, bins are available in three colors: black, green or beige.
Bins may be purchased at our administrative office. Please email us or call 301-600-2960 for assistance.
Each bin costs $25, payable by check only (our office is unable to process credit card or cash transactions).
This model of compost bin is quick and easy to set up but will require stakes (not included) for support and anchoring the unit in place. The bin consists of a single sheet of recycled plastic that bolts closed and can be unbolted to access the compost pile. It also makes an ideal "holding bin" for gathering materials to be composted later (such as fallen leaves or yard debris). This adjustable bin will hold over 14 bushels of compostable ingredients, and its open-top, well-ventilated design encourages faster breakdown of materials.
