A Watershed Steward is a property owner who works to improve water quality and wildlife habitat on their property. Stewards may include private citizens, churches, schools, homeowners associations, businesses, municipalities and other landowners. Each owner chooses what type of practices to implement on their property. Some choose stream-side tree planting, use of native plants and natural lawn care, installation of rain gardens or rain barrels, wetland enhancement/restoration, livestock stream fencing, conservation/agricultural preservation easements, or other practices to "green" their property.
Alliance partners developed the concept of a Watershed Steward as a way to acknowledge the efforts of landowners throughout the County. Landowners who choose to participate in projects will be given a sign to display on their property at the project site if desired. These signs are now available to past, present and future project partners.
