About the Grants
Solarize Frederick County made local incentive grants available to registered Green Homes Challenge participants who purchased solar electric or hot water systems.
$30,000 was allocated to provide incentives for solar hot water system sales. The original grants for $750 - $1,000 were increased to $1,500 - $2,000 to promote sales allowing for approximately 15 purchases. A total of $99,000 ($2,000 - $2,500 individual grants) was awarded to approximately 50 households for solar electric system sales incentives. Certified Power Saver Incentives
Higher grants were awarded to households certified as Power Savers in the Green Homes Challenge. For example, a Certified Power Saver household was eligible for a $2,000 for a solar hot water system, and/or a $2,500 grant for a purchased solar electric system (while funds last). A household that was not a Certified Power Saver was eligible for a $1,500 grant for a solar hot water system, and/or a $2,500 grant for a purchased solar electric system (while funds lasted).
Existing Maryland Grants
These grants were in addition to existing Maryland grants and federal tax credits. Households opting to lease solar PV systems could take advantage of volume purchasing discounts, but not incentive grants. Grants were processed through the solar installers as installation cost deductions. Installers, not homeowners, received the grant funds.
Grants were awarded upon contract signing with a Solarize Installer on a first-come, first-served basis.
