At a Public Hearing on December 4, 2012, the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) approved Revisions to the Water and Sewer System User Rates Charged by the Division of Utilities and Solid Waste Management via Ordinance 12-29-624. The Ordinance prescribes gradual water and sewer rate increases over a 5-year period. The increase in water rates is approximately 12% in each of the next five years (FY 2014 through FY 2018), while the increase in sewer rates is approximately 1.8% in FY 2014, followed by smaller increases in FY 2015 through FY 2018. The rate changes take effect on July 1, 2013 (start of FY 2014) and remain in effect until June 30, 2014.
The subsequent rates changes for FY 2015 through and including FY 2018, shall take effect on July 1, 2014, July 1, 2015, July 1, 2016, and July 1, 2017, respectively, after the BOCC’s annual reconsideration of these rates, unless otherwise modified by resolution of the BOCC.
In November, a survey of water and sewer rates for surrounding jurisdictions was performed, which indicated that the respective rates were competitive, or lower than many of these jurisdictions. [Note: The rates shown were as of November 2012 and do not reflect any prospective increases that may take place.]
