For Families
Families with children have special considerations when preparing for emergencies.  Depending on the age of the child you may need / want to include in your kit:
  • Bottles and formula
  • Comfort items - pacifier, stuffed animal or toy
  • Diapers
  • Small items to occupy time - cards, games, books

During emergencies, parents can find it difficult to explain to children what is happening. Preparing a kit and discussing plans before hand will help children cope.  For more information on helping children deal with emergencies visit the Red Cross.

There are also many preparedness web sites designed just for children. Visit Ready.gov/Kids for lots of activities and games designed just for kids to learn about being prepared.
