Born and raised in Frederick County, Blaine attended Governor Thomas Johnson High School and Frederick Community College (FCC) and played on the basketball team for both schools. After earning a two-year degree at FCC, he finished his studies at Frostburg State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mass Communications.

During that time, he stepped through the positions of Account Executive and Local Sales Manager to the Director of Sales, where he assisted administering a multi-million dollar budget and a staff of up to 14. He authored a column for The Gazette newspaper for two years addressing issues at the local, state and national level.

As an on-air personality for WFMD for over 16 years, he hosted and co-hosted several features and shows such as Sound Off, High School Basketball, Frederick’s Forum and The Blaine Young Show, which he still hosts.
