  • Power to Prevent is a FREE diabetes prevention program that helps adults who have and are at risk for type 2 diabetes to become more physically active and to eat healthier more often.
  • No future registration dates are planned due to budget cuts, which took effect October 1, 2011.
    • Alternative options for sustaining the program are being considered.
    • This page will be updated as new information becomes available.

  • The Power to Prevent program received a Model Practice Award in 2011 from the National Association of County and City Health Officials.
  • The Power to Prevent curriculum was developed by the National Diabetes Education Program with the goal of preventing type 2 diabetes and its complications.
  • Power to Prevent was implemented by the Frederick County Health Department with oversight and contributions from the Frederick County Diabetes Coalition and other community agencies.
  • Funding for this program was made possible by a grant received from the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
