Part-Time Paramedic Application Process
The Division of Fire and Rescue Services (DFRS) is currently accepting applications for the position of Part-Time Paramedic. We are excited to have multiple positions open for those interested and qualified to provide quality advanced life support services to the many citizens and visitors of Frederick County. Applications will continue to be accepted until all positions have been filled.
This is a non-exempt, on-call, non-benefited position. The work schedule will consist of varied days, hours, and shift assignments. Candidates will be required to commit to a minimum of 40 hours of availability per month.
This skilled, professional position involves all phases of emergency medical services operations including Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support duties (ALS), as well as routine non-emergency assignment. Station, unit assignment, and other details will be determined by the County. Shifts will be scheduled for maximum support of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) operations. Direction is received through the Division of Fire and Rescue Services (DFRS) chain of command and the Bureau Chief of Emergency Services.
Steps in the Selection/Hiring process may include
- A written examination including general ALS knowledge and practice, medication calculation, and EKG recognition
- An evaluation of training, education, and experience
- Successful completion of Division's EMS Work Performance Evaluation program (Click here for manual) (Click here for Video)
- A practical skills evaluation (adult cardiac arrest scenarios)
- A spoken examination before a panel
- One or more interviews
- A pre-employment psychological examination
- A pre-employment physical examination including pulmonary function test, color perception test, fitness-for-duty evaluation, and determination of tobacco use (disqualifier)
- A pre-employment drug testing
- Satisfactory background investigation
The following forms will be required in going through the selection process. Candidates should click on the forms below, print the forms, complete each fully, and bring them to the testing session for the practical skills and EMS/WPE.
A background investigation packet will also need to be completed and returned at the time of the practical skills and EMS/WPE testing. These will be distributed at the written test.
IMPORTANT!!! Candidates failing to bring these required documents may not be allowed to participate in the process and may be eliminated from consideration!
