Local Transit Service
Transit Service
TransIT is the public transportation service of Frederick County. TransIT provides public transit, paratransit, and commuter assistance.
- The public transit
service includes routes serving the City of Frederick and some
surrounding areas in addition to commuter shuttles serving Emmitsburg,
Thurmont, Walkersville, and Brunswick. There is also a Meet-the-MARC
shuttle serving the Point of Rocks MARC station from the City of Frederick. The Downtown Frederick MARC station serves as a Transit Center to allow for transfers between the various routes.
- TransIT-plus is a
demand responsive paratransit service for senior citizens and people
with disabilities and is available countywide.
- TransIT is a member of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments Commuter Connections program,
which provides ridesharing services, the Guaranteed Ride Home program,
promotes telecommuting, and assists employers in setting up commuter
programs. The ridesharing services are FREE to Frederick area
commuters.

Transit Friendly Design Guidelines
The
purpose of these guidelines is to provide developers, planners, and
appointed and elected officials with information about the benefits of
transit-friendly design and to encourage the use of design elements that
make commercial and residential developments more transit friendly.
The planning for future transit service is addressed by the Transportation Development Plan (TDP)
Which is
updated every five years. The TDP assesses current services and also
recommends transit improvements and expansion for the following 5-10
year period. The current TDP was adopted in 2007. TransIT Services also
works with an appointed committee, the Transportation Services Advisory Council (TSAC), to identify transportation trends and issues and to increase awareness of transportation alternatives.
