Third Grade Field Trips

Wetlands Ecologycrane.jpg

Students get a chance to discover the wetlands at Fountain Rock Park with this hands-on program!  After a short discussion on wetlands, students use dipping nets to catch crayfish, minnows, and other critters from Glade Creek.  Using our new “Specimen Viewing Area”, students will examine the aquatic specimens caught during the creek study and discuss the interactions, competition, and environmental factors of each.  The best time for this program is from May through October.  Class size per 90 minute session is limited to 30 for one class or 60 for two classes (for the latter, classes will rotate activities).  Children should bring old sneakers or water shoes (no rain boots) and be prepared to get wet (teachers and adult volunteers included).  Hip boots will be provided as needed.
