Rabies COMAR Information
If an animal is presented at your facility and you think it may have rabies or may have been in contact with a rabid animal, please adhere to the following instructions. Any questions can be directed to the Environmental Health Office at (301) 600-1717.
If the animal is exhibiting signs of rabies and has a bite wound of unknown origin or no history is known on the animal, the animal can be euthanized and tested for rabies.
Any animal(s) that is euthanized can be brought directly to the Health Department or submitted through the State Animal Lab, (301) 600-1548, or Animal Control.
If a pet with a known vaccination history is presented that had exposure to an unknown animal, a booster shot may be given.

To reach the Sanitarian, you can call the Frederick County Communications Center at (301) 600-1603 and they will contact the supervisor on call for Environmental Health via pager.
