1. What programs are available to preserve my historic property?

The Frederick County Register Historic Places is the County's official list of important historical resources. Listing in the County Register is by owner consent only; the County does not designate a property without a formal nomination process initiated by the owner(s) or by another party with the owner(s) written consent. County Register properties are eligible for the Maryland Sustainable Communities Tax Credit Program (formerly known as the Heritage Preservation Tax Credit for Rehabilitation).

The National Register of Historic Places is a Federal designation administered in Maryland by the Maryland Historical Trust, the State agency for historic preservation. 3. What are the benefits of listing in the County Register?

County Register listing provides 1) recognition of a site's significant qualities or a historic district's significant properties; 2) qualifies a property for financial assistance; 3) protection from changes to the exteriors (not interiors) and environmental settings that are inappropriate to retention of historical significance, using the design review process and adopted design guidelines.
