The Department of Solid Waste facilities are located at 9031 Reichs Ford Road in Frederick. There are 2 entrances to the site.
The "Recycle Road" entrance is for access to the recycling drop-off center, for free drop-off of:
Single stream recyclables (bottles, cans, paper, cardboard, plastic, etc.)
Bulky/over sized plastics (items too large to recycle curbside)
Small amounts of yard waste
Antifreeze and motor oil
Scrap metal and 'white goods' appliances(refrigerators, air conditioners, stoves, etc.)
The main entrance is marked by a sign identifying the Department of Solid Waste Management facilities. This is the main site access point, used when bringing in trash for disposal as well as the following materials for recycling:
Electronics - Charged at the rate of $0.76 per 20 pounds of materials (paid cash/check)
Scrap tires - Tires incur a tipping fee of $0.69 per 20 pounds (paid by cash/check)
Yard waste - No fee to bring in yard waste
The main entrance is also used to access the transfer station, administrative offices, and other site facilities, as well as to purchase mulch and compost. When you arrive at the main entrance your first stop will be at the scale house. In order to keep accurate records of the quantity of materials our site processes, all vehicles are weighed as they enter and exit. The staff person who greets you will ask what you are disposing and direct you to your next stop.
Proof of Residency & ID Card
The facilities are to be used for processing waste and recyclables generated in Frederick County only. On your first visit proof of residency is required, such as a driver's license, vehicle registration, or utility bill. Once residency is established, customers are provided a landfill ID card or sticker.
