The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has proposed an adjustment to the recommendation for optimal fluoride levels in drinking water to prevent tooth decay. After consultation with the Maryland Department of Environment (MDE) Water Supply Program, all fluoridated water systems will be following these recommendations and lowering the target dosage rate of fluoride from 1.0 mg/l to 0.7 mg/l.
